Once more, the Presidente of Colombia has lied to Ecuador while describing a combat scenario which is completly false in order to justify another illegal incursion into our territory. We refuse to accept this position, as we have in the past and we support our government in its condemnation of our neighbor's procedure.
However we must excercise conceptual precision. We are not facing military but rather diplomatic conflict. The colombian incursion was meant to harm neither ecuadorian lives nor material goods but rather to do away with the head of a criminal organization.
It does not befit, therefore, to speak of military emergencies, or troop mobilizations to the border more so than anticipated. Overeaction as a response could do more harm than the incident itself. As has been suggested in other occasions, what is relevant is to prudently come before international organizations and obtain a mandate to stop Colombia, while making it absolutely clear that Ecuador will not resort to an armed response.
Finally, accussations against minister Gustavo Larrea should be discarded by Ecuador showing a lack of solidity in the evidence Bogotá claims to have against him.
